The charm of the island of Capri between nature and history

Data di pubblicazione: 09/04/2021

It is located in front of the Sorrento Peninsula, it is rich of archaeological ruins of the Roman period, surrounded by a heavenly beautiful nature, in the past it was chosen as a residence by artists from all over the world and still retains its worldly charm, in a nutshell: it is Capri.

The island of Capri is definitely worth one of our guided tours along its colourful shopping streets, its monuments and its crystal clear waters. The island is divided into two towns, Capri and Anacapri, and the social hub of the town, characterised by houses with terraces and pergolas, is the famous Piazzetta, the nickname by which the small Piazza Umberto I is known throughout the world. It is an outdoor living room which appears to be the centre of tourist and social life. Above the Piazzetta stands the Baroque Church of St Stephen, with its Arab-inspired domes and the precious floor of Roman period, coming from Villa Jovis. One of the most beautiful examples of the Capri architecture, visitable by booking our island excursion, is the monumental complex of the Charterhouse of San Giacomo, overlooking the enchanting panorama of the Faraglioni. At a few steps there are the Gardens of Augustus, a green oasis with an evocative belvedere, from which you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Faraglioni and Marina Piccola. From the Gardens od Augustus you can reach Marina Piccola walking along Via Krupp, a winding but enchanting lane leading down to the sea, offering visitors panoramic views of the sea bed and the Faraglioni.

Capri owes its incomparable beauty also to its grottos: the Green Grotto, the White Grotto and the more famous Blue Grotto. The last one, already known to the Romans and then rediscovered in the 19th century, it owes its dreamlike atmosphere to a geological phenomenon that caused it to be lowered by about twenty metres, bringing the entrance almost below sea level. Filtered by the water, the light creates a wonderful colour: an intense light blue which gives a silvery sheen to everything inside.
